school's bit tough, right?

i'm not a writer. i'm just a student. and a part of being a student is writing reams of paper. and i just want to scream out! haha! :D anyway, this one is my precious masterpiece. i really had my head banging just to finish this stuff. well, this is for grades. good luck to my academics. :)

i wrote a book report about the book "Blood Pressure" by Alan Gibbons. awesome book, i can say. bit short, but realistic. :)

okay okay. here it is. :D

Title of the Book: Blood Pressure

Name of the Author: Alan Gibbons No. of Pages: 199

Setting/s:

Liverpool and Surrey, England

Main Characters:

· Aidan Shaw
· Jill Shaw
· Jade
· Paul Gorman
· Sean Deegan
· Thomas Morrisey

Best-Liked Character and Why:

In the story, I liked two characters, Aidan and Sean.

I liked Aidan’s character the most. Aside from being the lead role and the protagonist of the story, I personally admire how sleek he is to his opposite sex. He can flirt Jade when he first saw the girl at her school, for example. At the same time, he had the courage to confront Sean Deegan and bravely asking him why he is talking to his mother. Well, of course, people who are concerned with their loved ones would also do the same. But for me, Aidan is truly different because at a young age like fifteen, teenagers would think to go inside their houses and stare while the conversation is going on.

On the other hand, I liked Sean Deegan also. As the reader, I felt his eagerness to be known by his son as his father, not a man from mafia. I noticed also that even though he is with the mafia, he really wants to renew his image from a bad boy to a father of a son. No offense, but I liked the way he tried to cope up with his son, even though it looks like it would frighten everyone because no one could imagine to tell a secret inside a car while being chased by the Gunslinger, the one who wants to kill him.

Conflict:

I think the conflict in the story is that the scene or the event that Aidan remembered and knew that his real father is Sean Deegan and not Mark Shaw, Jill’s husband. It is because I personally felt how the exchange of lines and how the emotions work with them. It let me feel the pain for Aidan’s side, and the eagerness to reveal who he is to his son for Sean’s side.

Most Interesting Part of the Story:

The most interesting part of the story for me is the time when Joe, Jill’s father, unveiled Aidan everything from how the story of Jill and Sean started until the time they broke up and how they separated their lives. In this conversation with Jill’s family, this is the time that almost everything will be uncovered, like how did Sean and Jill handled the situations when they are together. I think it is the most confidential story their family keeps. With the story, their hearts ravish with anger to Sean.

Summary:

Aidan Shaw, a 15-year-old teenager from Surrey, went to Liverpool to go to his mother’s parents. He was with his mom Jill Shaw when they went there. Upon staying Liverpool for his grandfather, he met a girl named Jade. He fell in love with her. Suddenly, when he went home, he saw a man in a BMW talking to his mom. He confronted him and found out that that man was his dad. The name’s Sean Deegan, who was introduced by Paul Gorman, through words. Accidentally, somebody shot at the car as the Gunslinger is eager to kill Deegan so with Aidan, they went away and arrived to a place somewhere outside Liverpool where the changed cars from BMW to Ford. Then, they had a ride, but the worried Aidan forced Deegan to stop the car and let him go, but Deegan resisted so instead, he drove Aidan back to Liverpool safe and sound. Then, when Jade saw Aidan, Jade confessed to Aidan that she is pregnant with Paul. Aidan felt disappointment but Jade was his true love. Then, when he arrived home from his meeting with Jade, he saw Deegan with Thomas Morrisey in BMW, saying goodbye to him. All of a sudden, he remembered about what Thomas told him about the Gunslinger, and found out that they were one. Aidan tried to save Deegan by calling him Dad but it’s too late as the Gunslinger shot his gun at Deegan, then died. After of what happened, all went on with their lives as Deegan had funeral rights, and Aidan with his family, went back to Surrey.

Reaction:

The story goes complicated at first, and suddenly, everything coped up with what the story must go. The author did many twists in the story as he introduced the Gunslinger and made it as if the reader will quickly glance on it. With this, the author implies that how to write a story in an interesting way is not that hard, start experimenting. Also, the adventures of the characters seem to be in reality because most of the scenes in the story happen in real life. It is a way of reaching people in writing a story: to relate each happening in reality. Being capable of doing this, the people will not only think of having a fictional story, but also, the story can truly happen in real life.

In my opinion, the end of the story settled each problem the characters faced. It is because even though the ending seems to be a tragic one, almost everything ended with whatever the problems are in there. However, there are problems that are not yet solved within the end. One is that what happened to the Gunslinger after Deegan’s death. Nothing followed about this man after Deegan died. He may be escaped from the scenario and skulking in order not to face the crime he made.

If I control the story’s ending, I would prefer that Deegan would not die, and at the same time, the Gunslinger will be punished for what he had made to Deegan. Also, when everything is fine, Aidan will have the chance to be with his biological father, and cope up with everything they missed when they were apart when Aidan is still five years old. In addition, the story would have been better if the future will be characterized by the author. For example, the author might put some things that will used to predict the future that awaits to the characters.
